Philadelphia, recently conducted an AI

camera assisted bus lane enforcement

pilot that showed an average of 4,000

weekly violations occurred along

just two bus routes that were studied

over the spring and early summer.

The findings are intended to

raise awareness about the safety

issues these violations create.

and informed discussions

about enforcement solutions.

The 70 day pilot program identified

key hotspots where vehicles were

illegally parked in transit zones.

A camera system was mounted inside

seven buses and automatically detected

illegally parked vehicles in the

bus only lanes and at bus stops.

The study documented over 36,000 total

parking obstructions in the pilot

zone and showed that 50 percent of bus

stops were obstructed at some point.

Both New York City and San Francisco's

MTA have used this technology that

speeds and reduce bus collisions.
